Glasgow indie heroes wojtek the bear return with a new single, ‘kylie’s put a curse on us’ – the video is by Jen Marr, and the single is out now via Last Night from Glasgow, acting as a taster for the band’s forthcoming album “i don’t think you want to hear this” which is available to pre-order now.
The upcoming 11-track album was recorded with renowned producer Bill Ryder-Jones at Airdrie’s Beetroot Studios, the band saying: “ We were really excited to work with Bill as we’re huge fans of his records and his style of production (since leaving The Coral Ryder-Jones has produced The Wytches, Brooke Bentham, and Michael Head) and luckily we hit it off pretty much immediately. So much so that when we’d finished it felt like we’d just been having a carry-on with our pals for a few weeks and had somehow managed to record an album by mistake.
The title is obviously a nod to the Gerry Love song “Kylie’s got a crush on us” and it just so happened that Bill had been working recently with Gerry on a record, so we invited him over to the studio while we were recording for him to hear the song and thankfully he gave us his blessing, and even recorded some hand claps on the album.
In terms of the lyrical content of the song, it’s a fictional tale about an extremely over-zealous fan of Kylie who writes to and pesters her so much to the point that she can’t get rid of them, so she decides to take matters into her own hands and puts a voodoo curse on the person to try and get rid of them!”
